Celebrating
the art of song
The Aldeburgh Connection was founded in Toronto in 1982 by pianists
Stephen Ralls and Bruce Ubukata, who for many summers worked with
young singers at the Britten-Pears School in Aldeburgh, England
— the home of the festival founded by Benjamin Britten and
Peter Pears.
Every year we present a five-concert Sunday afternoon series
of vocal and piano concerts, setting each of the musical programs
around a theme, and using interesting readings from letters,
diaries, newspaper clippings, poetry, to draw the audience into
a musical, literary or historical character or period. Since
the inaugural concert in 1982, we have performed over 80 different
theme programs. We also feature fine Canadian singers in recital,
and each year present young up-and-coming singers in two Discovery
Recitals. And the Bayfield Festival of Song takes place in June
on the western shores of Lake Huron in Bayfield Ontario.
We invite you to enjoy a rotating survey of our programs and recitalists!
